Ground Taco Meat

I am from San Diego where we have the best authentic Mexican food in the country and I am completely obsessed with it (I’ve probably told you this a million times already). Most of the time, I make authentic style tacos which does not include adding taco seasoning to the taco meat.

However, I do like to indulge in Taco Bell every now and then, and I also like to add taco seasoning to my ground beef or ground turkey to give my tacos more of a taco bell feel when I am in the mood. But to make it healthier, I make the taco seasoning myself. Below is a simple and delicious recipe for ground taco meat. It’s perfect to eat with a crunchy taco (the corn tortilla fried, of course, not store-bought), and it’s a perfect protein for an amazing taco salad. Add Tia Marta’s Salsa to whatever you decide to eat this delicious ground taco meat with and I guarantee it will be heaven on earth.

Ground Taco Meat

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of ground beef (I used 85/15)
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp of cumin
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp of chili powder
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp of granulated garlic
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp of granulated onion
  • 2 tbsp of tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup of water

Instructions

  • Add ground beef to a medium skillet over medium heat. Use a wooden spoon to cook and break down the meat seasoning generously with salt and pepper.
  • Next, add cumin, chili powder, granulated garlic, and granulated onion to beef. Continue to cook and break down the meat, making sure that the seasoning is evenly distributed.
  • Once meat has browned, add 2 tbsp of tomato paste to meat and use spoon to distribute. Lastly, add water and combine with meat. Let cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Enjoy!
