5 from 1 vote

Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steak

  • 1 lb of ground beef, 80/20
  • 1/4 of onion, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 of bell pepper, roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp of tomato paste
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup of almond flour
  • 1 tsp of granulated garlic
  • 1 tsp of granulated onion
  • salt and pepper to taste

For the Onion Gravy

  • 1 tbsp of avocado oil
  • 1/2 of onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp of tapioca or arrowroot flour
  • 2 cups of beef bone broth
  • 1 tsp of granulated garlic
  • 2 tsp of granulated onion
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Add roughly chopped onion and bell pepper to a food processor or blender and pulse until pureed.
  • Add ground beef, pureed bell pepper and onion, almond flour, tomato paste, egg, 1 tsp of granulated garlic, 1 tsp of granulated onion, and salt and pepper to taste to a medium-sized bowl. Use your hands to make combine all ingredients.
  • Next, form beef mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  • Heat a medium-sized skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add patties and cook for 4 minutes on both sides. Remove patties from skillet, add to a plate and set aside. It is ok for the patties not to be cooked through at this point because they will continue to cook in the gravy. Leave fat drippings in the skillet.
  • Add avocado oil to the beef fat drippings in the skillet. Add sliced onions. Cook onions until they have softened, about 5 minutes. Add tapioca or arrowroot flour to onions and cook for about 1 minute. Next, add bone broth and cook until the gravy thickens, stirring frequently. Add 1 tsp of granulated garlic and 2 tsp of granulated onion to gravy and combine. Taste gravy and add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add patties into the gravy, cover and let cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy!
