Just Delicious

Copycat: Bobby’s Burger Palace Bacon Crunchburger

My absolute favorite things to eat growing up were tacos and burgers. Now, I did love all things marinara: spaghetti, meatball sandwiches, etc., but my favorite has always been and will always be tacos and burgers. As you know, I love my mom’s cooking and she makes the best tacos and burgers of all time. But now that I live the DMV (Washington Metropolitan Area), I am unable to go to her house and eat all of her yummy food whenever I want, so I either have to make them myself or find delicious options at restaurants near us.

During the third trimester of my pregnancy with my daughter Winstyn Lynn, all I wanted was cheeseburgers! I would go to bed at night craving them. I would wake up in the morning still craving them. I would be drinking coffee craving them. I would be eating bagels craving them! I would crave them all of the time!! My mom has always told me to give into my cravings because she says if you don’t you will just eat a bunch of stuff that you really don’t want until you actually satisfy your craving. And there is nothing wrong with a burger every now and then. Everything in moderation, including moderation!!

Well moderation had gone out the window and I was all twisted up in the game when I met Bobby’s Burger Palace’s Bacon Crunchburger. There are only a few locations throughout the country and with just my luck, there was one right by my doctor’s office! So now after every appointment in my third trimester, which means every week, I would have to go and eat a Bacon Crunchburger.

Being from California, my absolute favorite burger place is IN-N-OUT Burger (and it will always be). I love burgers with lots of raw onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and secret sauce, but this burger has absolutely none of that. All it has is cheese, bacon, and potato chips….say whaaaat?? And it is perfection.

Now that I am no longer pregnant, going all the way to Bobby’s Burger Palace is a huge inconvenience (traffic in D.C. is the worst, well second to L.A.). So I decided to be a copycat and make a version of this burger at home and it really is just as good!! For those of you who have a Bobby’s Burger Palace, I highly recommend you go give it a try! But for those of you that don’t, try this recipe and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Copycat: Bobby’s Burger Palace Bacon Crunchburger

Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef, 80/20
  • 4 sesame seed buns
  • 4 slices of American Cheese
  • 8 pieces of bacon
  • 20 Lays potato chips, original
  • 1 to 2 tsp of olive oil or avocado oil
  • Salt and Pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cover baking sheet with aluminum foil and add bacon. Place bacon in preheated oven and bake for 20-30 minutes, depending on how crunchy you like your bacon.
  • While bacon cooks, divide the ground beef into four equal portions and form a burger patty with each portion. Season both sides of burger with salt and pepper.
  • Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat (cast iron is not necessary but does deliver best results) and add olive oil to the pan. The olive oil will help the burger to get a nice crust. Add burgers to pan and do not touch again until they are ready to flip, about 4 to 5 minutes. Flip burgers and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes or until they’ve reached desired temperature.
  • Cover each burger with cheese during the last minute of cooking.
  • Sandwich the burgers between sesame seed buns. Top burger with bacon. Next, add 5 lays potato chips.
  • Serve immediately.
